Former Incarnations

1. The T Squad Midnight Warriors. Modeled initially from the template of the Sailor Senshi by Naoko Takeuchi’s design and ironically the Spice Girls, The TSMW grew from five members to almost twenty, boasting leather suits and such superhero names as Dynamic Warrior and Warrior of Sweetness. Really? Surely I jest. I wish I had been kidding, but as a teenager I was serious about this. Crime fighters of the world around them, the TSMW boasted more brawn than actual preternatual powers, though as time passed, the “elements” became even weirder and more diverse. Soon I wondered, who wasn’t a Midnight Warrior in Gracia? So the prestige went out of the window, and every time I think of them I cringe. Oh well.

2. The Midnight Senshi. Part One, Pretty Soldier Midnight Moon. A more stylish and realistic (and a little more selective) version of the TSMW emerged during the planning stages of Pretty Soldier Midnight Moon, my “revival” of the Sailor Moon series. PSMM picks up a few years after Sailor Stars, bringing Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako to California where they would go to school. Along the way they would meet who would later be dubbed the Midnight Senshi: Sailor Sunfire, Sailor Rose, Sailor Darkness, and Sailor Earth. The Midnight Senshi were also flanked by the Midnight Princess Senshi, powerful allies that were not exactly warriors, the Angel Senshi, allies from a higher realm in the future called the Cloud Nine Kingdom, and their guardians.

I feel a little less ashamed of the Midnight Senshi even though my fellow Sailor Moon fans would call a couple of the Senshi otaku. Even though I never really started the series satisfactorily, it yielded my only finished story, To Catch a Fire Child, and the play the Mistress of the Shrine which features Angelia Sanford on the throne of the Cloud Nine Kingdom, along with Rose Thorn Shock (for Jessica if you couldn’t tell) which could have been quite intriguing had I spent more energy on it.

Part Two, The Midnight Senshi and the Honorary Sailor Senshi. I realized how dumb the whole Midnight Senshi thing was, and this started the break from my beloved Sailor Moon. While I loved the concept of the “magical girl” superhero, I didn’t want to feel like I was mooching off of Naoko Takeuchi’s brainchild. So I tossed around ideas for a story called Supernova, which began with the martyrdom of Queen Aidanne the first, Daniella Thomas’s predecessor. It didn’t fare too well in the face of my fervor in writing The Tricorn and its later incarnation, Infinity. While writing Infinity, I came up with the Gifted.

3. The Gifted–and Fearless. Meanwhile, in the midst of PSMM, I stumbled upon a book series called Fearless by Francine Pascal. I started a story called Codename: Manhattan Supergirl which teamed series protagonist Gaia Moore with Josephine “Josie” Yuy, the eldest daughter of Daniella Thomas and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing’s Heero Yuy. (See–I was out of my mind!) In the Fearless fanfiction state of mind, I came up with the first version of The Gifted, which was very bleak and dramatic. It would have been interesting, maybe, but I never started a chapter.

4. The Gifted–and Alias. While writing Infinity (the Reprise), I started the second version of The Gifted with Sydney Bristow as the Warrior and Michael Vaughn as the Healer. During this, I laid down the foundation for what you see before you. On a whim, I decided to break from writing an Alias fanfic to doing something totally independent from anything–and everything.
